INTERNATIONAL CIRCUS FESTIVAL
In its first edition (2012), it was already considered the largest circus festival in Latin America and in 2014 the International Circus Festival of Rio de Janeiro is the world’s largest circus festival. More than 50 national and international attractions – which in total, bring together about 400 artists — carried out about 200 free performances in over 60 locations throughout all regions of the city, including 46 slums, to an estimated audience of 250 thousand people. There wasn’t any carioca unaware of Rio festival between 8 and 18 of may, 2014, which led the circus from “Paciência” to “Paqueta”!
With a premiere gala at the Municipal Theater, four mounted canvas and the occupation of seven other theaters scattered throughout the city, the festival was in EVERY CORNER AROUND TOWN, with a return of spontaneous media of nearly 40 million reais (adding the two editions).
During the last edition, the festival has reaffirmed its commitment to provide the general public with the creative force, the inventiveness and the daring of artists, members of groups and contemporary circus companies from Brazil and overseas. The Festival hopes to impact the development, strengthening and renewal of the circus arts. Scheduled to be biennial, the next official release will be in 2016. In its first editions it was sponsored by the City of Rio de Janeiro, CCR, Petrobras, BMG, Outback Steak House, Consórcio Construtor Rio Barra, Firjan, Multiplan (ParkShopping Campo Grande) and Sebrae-RJ.
The project is a realization of “Crescer e Viver” Circus and M’Baraká, result of a long partnership between the two institutions and many dialogues among its partners
