HISTORY OF BANCO DO BRASIL
Invited by Centro Cultural banco do Brasil, we had the chance to renew the permanent exhibition on the history of the Banco do Brasil, installed in rooms that keep the original architecture of the current CCBB building at Rua Primeiro de Março in Rio de Janeiro city.
After accepting the challenge of reoccupying a space that has exquisite finishes and few possibilities of intervention, we designed exhibitors that would couple in different ways to the moldings of the wooden walls that were located at half height in all the rooms. A pallete of blues, greens and copper tones was used in curtains and walls to highlight details of furniture, vintage chandeliers and historical pieces from the Bank’s collection. The project reversed the use of heritage-listed furniture that could not be removed from the rooms by adapting a dresser into a cabinet of curiosities and drawers into photo frames. The library’s closet has been converted into a showcase of excerpts from rare works that had been kept there for years, and are now displayed in delicate backlights behind the crafted glass doors.
The selection of curatorship is composed of: a large oil painting by Di Cavalcanti, rare engravings of D. João VI and photographs of important and curious events in the history of the Bank, such as the moment of the choice of its current brand or the design of its calculators at the beginning of the 20th century. The result is an exhibition that blends important facts from the history of Brazil with the history of the Bank, by means of a clear and contemporary language.
