Galeria POP UP do CRAB
Pop-Up is a current concept in which a brand presents a unique curatorship associated with its identity, in an event of fixed duration. The challenge of the design was to create a mix of store and gallery that included 250 pieces of varied techniques and origins in the style of CRAB - the reference house of Brazilian folk crafts.
The exhibition design of the Pop Up Gallery established a relationship between the experience of the craftsmen and the architecture of the historical building that CRAB occupies - the Palace of the Visconde do Rio Seco, which dates back to the end of the 18th century. In the old carriage garage, the terracotta statues representing industry and wisdom were integrated into the exhibition narrative, in a dialogue of historical and aesthetic contrast. The original antique floor tiles became exhibitors of the pieces, which, together with bricks, balusters, trunks and roof tiles, conveying essential meanings, connecting the public to history of the craftsmen and the palace.
The graphic design was inspired on the repertoire of images of the artisans' works, generating a collection of shapes representing graphical traits common to Brazilian popular culture. Elements such as the sun, moon, mandacaru and indigenous graphics are tied by a cordel literature typography style. Printed in the gallery, they create a colourful and dreamlike space, organizing and highlighting each artwork group - an immersion in colours and symbols that arise from the imagination of artisans.
